“This is the kind of fast day I’m after:
to break the chains of injustice,
get rid of exploitation in the workplace,
free the oppressed,
cancel debts.

What I’m interested in seeing you do is:
sharing your food with the hungry,
inviting the homeless poor into your homes,
putting clothes on the shivering ill-clad,
being available to your own families.

Do this and the lights will turn on,
and your lives will turn around at once.

Your righteousness will pave your way.
The God of glory will secure your passage.
Then when you pray, God will answer.
You’ll call out for help and I’ll say, ‘Here I am.’

Isaiah 58:6-9 MSG

Every year, we, Christians from around the world, prepare our hearts, minds, and spirits for the journey awaiting us that is the season of Lent. In this season we willingly walk ourselves into the desert to plunge into reflection and aim to clothe ourselves in prayer and fasting, creating an intentional barrier between us and the many distractions and delicacies that we are daily afforded. In this 40 day season we turn our hearts toward Christ and away from the many good things we can partake in to partake in a greater joy of being singularly set on a trajectory toward the man Jesus.

The way is hard. Choosing to abstain from what we are entitled to and which bring us ‘fulfilment’ is no easy feat, but the reward is great. It is easier than we think to give into letting go of whatever cross we’ve vowed to carry during this season, and so to help aide in this walk, I’ve put together a Lent playlist centering around Christ. Whether this compiled list of songs is of use or not, I pray that God would reveal Himself to each of us during this period leading up to Easter and that we wouldn’t only know about God, but we would experience Him through the work of the Holy Spirit.
